Film Types: All Products described here are intended for indoor use.
Polyester (PET)

Polyester is an outstanding heat activated film for most applications. It features excellent scuff and scratch resistance, durability and good folding characteristics. It is the industry's most popular film and is most commonly used for two sided lamination.

Applications include book covers, badges, maps and menus. PET has tensile, tear and impact strength and retains these outstanding properties and remains tough and flexible once applied. Since PET doesn't contain any plasticizers, it doesn't become brittle with age under normal conditions. PET has the widest selection of film thickness available.

General purpose over-laminate
Excellent abrasion and scratch resistance
Good thermal stability
Polypropylene (OPP)

Polypropylene is a favorite choice for those wanting a more economical heat activated film. It is a very flexible film and is often used in one sided project. Applications include write-on/wipe off calendars, posters, presentation folders and labels. Because of its softness, OPP folds extremely well

Good optical properties, "wet look" ( Available in matte finish too)
Good chemical resistance
Folds extremely well
Cost effective when compared to PET
Softer than PET
Nylon (Lay-Flat)
Nylon thermal laminating film is very popular particularly for one sided projects like book covers and dust jackets, due to its uniquely stable and non-curling properties. When exposed to heat, as during lamination, nylon won't stretch or expand. Accordingly, when cooling, nylon doesn't shrink. Lat-Flat features excellent abrasion resistance and exceptional optical properties (clarity, glossiness).
Reduced curl
Good scratch and abrasion resistance
Good optical properties

About Thickness
10 Mil is as rigid and thick as a credit card.

5 Mil is as rigid and thick as a playing card as in Spades, Hearts, Diamonds and Clubs

3 Mil is less rigid and thiner than a standard business card

1.7 Mil is as rigid as a sheet of paper and is thinner than a stack of two sheets of paper
NOTE: The thickness of the paper will affect the thickness and feel of the finished piece. (i.e. the thicker/heavier the paper the more riged and thicker the end product. It is always cheaper to print on heavier paper and use thinner laminate.)
